Connecting Neurodiverse Lives

Embrace Diversity

Welcome to AuA, a nurturing haven dedicated to individuals across the neurodiversity spectrum and those who stand by them.

Working together we can foster understanding and reduce misconceptions

Our core mission is to host regular gatherings that provide a platform to embrace individuality, engage in meaningful conversations, and openly explore both challenges and triumphs. Our founder, Michael Woolsey, established AuA as a response to personal experiences, aiming to foster an environment of empathy, unity, and empowerment.

IT DOESN’T NEED TO BE THAT WAY

What to Expect

Our meetings are thoughtfully curated to strike a balance between structure and enjoyment, creating an atmosphere of growth and connection. Here’s a glimpse into what you’ll encounter.

    1. Warm Beginnings

Upon arrival, help yourself to a cup of your preferred beverage and settle into a space that feels comfortable, whether it’s a chair, a cushion, or a patch of floor.

    2. Introductions

We initiate each session with a warm welcome from the organizer. If you’re new, you’re welcome to introduce yourself, but there’s absolutely no pressure.

    3. Stories Shared

Every gathering features a guest speaker or a member sharing their unique journey. This could encompass personal anecdotes, stories of resilience, or explorations of special interests. Toward the end, we encourage members to share their own narratives.

    4. Relaxed Interactions

This is your time to connect on your terms. Whether you prefer chatting, listening, embracing stimming behaviors, or simply being present, the choice is yours. Our environment thrives on authenticity, allowing you to express yourself freely.

We do not need to cure neurodiversity. We need to embrace it.

    Celebrate Your Authenticity

Our meetings serve as sanctuaries, offering respite from the pressures of conforming to a world dominated by neurotypical norms. We understand the toll that societal expectations can take, and our gatherings are designed to encourage a genuine sense of self.

      Inclusive Community

Our community is a tapestry of diverse individuals:

      • Individuals who identify with autism or ADHD, whether officially diagnosed or self-identified.
      • Supportive allies of neurodivergent individuals, seeking insight and understanding.
      • Individuals who are curious about their own neurodivergent traits, aspiring to move beyond stereotypes.
      • Non-neurodivergent individuals who are eager to learn, connect, and contribute to our vibrant community.

        Our Founder’s Journey

AuA was born from the experiences and insights of Michael Woolsey. After navigating the complexities of a late ADHD diagnosis and discovering his own autism, Michael recognized the transformative power of finding a supportive community. Motivated by his own path and the challenges his children faced, Michael realised the necessity for a network akin to Alcoholics Anonymous within the neurodiverse community. And thus, AuA came into existence.

Autism is as much a part of humanity as is the capacity to dream
